Hi all, just to let you know I've put up a question on central - wikia:Forum:Where is the right place for mid-level stuff?, which I think it'd be good to get other peoples' views on (and have left messages for a couple of people re Community team and hubs) I realise we might not have discussed further forums here, so please feel free to add / comment as appropriate.

I'll post my opinions here so we just have one WikiSocial Spokesperson in the central wikia discussion.

My gut feeling is that we can all agree that this is a good idea. but is there enough news to justify it. sure from time to time wikis will do exciting things, get selected for featured wikis or win collaboration of the month. But for most wikis the only things that happen are edits and the occasional spamming. I suppose we could also include events that would encourage new articles like a new harry potter book or movie.

I think we should have the news on the hubs and perhaps cheat by coming up with newsworthy things, "super wikia of the month award". Perhaps the most important thing is to have a central person and page so that they can make sure that news we have gets published and promoted.

I like the idea on the central discussion of using the hubs more. I think if the hubs had their own COTM that would work better than the current system.

sorry for the long post

here's a brainwave! we could create a Digg clone in wikitext. It allows users to submit news stories. and then other users get to vote the ones they like up and they get presented on the main page. I don't have the ability to get it going but it would be great to share ideas. Initially we should focus getting users to submit news here or at central. We could then do a manual Digg as users talk stories up they have to physically move it. Once that's established then we could get an automatic one working.

we could create a template that counts the number of items in a category then to vote users just have to add their profile to that category. I think the main problem is that users would be able to vote for more than one submission

any suggestions? (don't worry this is mostly a long term idea)

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll add it to the To Do List.
